Scoring University is the coaching program of Tim Graves, PGA — built on eighty acres in Edmond, Oklahoma, and run on a simple idea: most golfers are working hard on the wrong thing.
A student came in for what he thought would be a swing lesson. Low single-digit handicap, sixty-something, wanted to break par before he turned seventy. We never made it to the range.
I spent the first hour at a table going through his assessment data — putts inside ten feet, up-and-down percentage from rough versus sand, greens by approach distance. Where strokes were leaking, not where he assumed they were. About halfway through he leaned back, looked at the spreadsheets spread across the table, and said:
“Tim, you’re not a golf coach. You’re a scoring professor.”
I laughed and wrote it in my notebook. The next week another student used the same word without prompting. Then a third. By the end of the month it was on a name tag. I stopped fighting it.
It was about statistics in golf: how to measure where strokes are actually being lost, how to prescribe practice with precision, how to prove improvement rather than feel it. That presentation became the foundation for everything that followed.
It’s a five-stage scientific method, built from analysis of hundreds of thousands of rounds and broken down by handicap and by age — because a seventy-year-old scratch golfer doesn’t need to hit it 242 yards. They need 190. Most instruction ignores that entirely.
Every student runs it, every six weeks. Sometimes the lowest-hanging fruit is short game. Sometimes it’s swing. Sometimes it’s both. Your data decides — not dogma.
Twenty-plus years — the teaching tenure behind the method.
Master’s degree plus doctoral coursework in epidemiology and biostatistics.
Architect and author of the age-adjusted scoring blueprint behind every prescription.
Hundreds of thousands of rounds analyzed — every benchmark and projection traces back to it.
Range here. Green over there. Short-game area across town. You can’t teach scoring like that. So we built eighty acres in Edmond, Oklahoma, designed end-to-end around how a golfer actually improves.
Chipping and pitching off real grass — not mats — and every variation of bunker shot. You can hit a full eighty- or ninety-yard sand shot and watch it land on the driving range.
Tour-quality, AimPoint-ready, with every kind of break and speed. PGA Tour pros come to this green to tune their stroke before tournaments.
Six holes — two par 3s, three par 4s, one par 5 — that can be routed twenty-seven different ways. You won’t play the same course twice in a week.
Hit off mats and the data lies. Hit off real Bermuda and the data is gospel — every yardage real, every number one you’ll see on the course.
Climate-controlled hitting bays and a heated teaching building, so practice never stops. Home to our Callaway Certified Custom Fitting Center and the indoor classroom.
Three intensive schools: the Short Game Lab, the Playing School on the Infinity Course, and the AAI Mental Game School. One is included with every annual enrollment — pick the one your data says you need most.
The Scoring Professor. Author of Scoring by Design; he reads your assessment data and sets the six-week prescription.
Enrollment Advisor. Reads every application personally and runs the twenty-minute discovery call.
Performance specialist; co-teaches the AAI Mental Game School built on Moe Norman’s Alert Attitude of Indifference.
“Most instruction starts with the swing. I start with your scorecard.”
